POOL FILTER TYPES

Cartridge -- special filter elements strip away dirt and debris from pool water. Pool filter cartridges need to replaced periodically as this dirt begins to build up on the filter. The pressure gauge on the filter housing will indicate an increase in pressure as the filter cartridge must work harder to clean the water. Once the cartridge's pressure increases by 10 PSI, it is time to replace or clean the cartridge.

DE Filters (diatomaceous earth) -- for the cleanest, clearest water possible. DE is a naturally occurring substance with microscopic openings that when magnified look like tiny sponges. It is very effective at trapping suntan lotions and body oils for healthier swimming pool water. DE filters require the least amount of energy of all filters to operate thereby lowering your energy costs.

Sand Filters -- the most popular pool filter because of their low maintence demands and effectiveness. Sand particles trap dirt and debris and the water flows through the filtration vessel. Sand filters must be backwashed periodically as the dirt has accumulated. A rise in pressure will indicate a need for backwashing.
